And Debra Dickerson does so in this blog posting at Mother Jones.
It's titled "Class Is the New Black, or How I Had to Look Beyond Race and Learn to Love Equality". Cheeky Dr. Strangelove reference, eh?
She makes some interesting points, speaking to black people and others, about the challenges our country has as we face a new chapter in our history of race relations, as demarcated by the inauguration of our first black president.
What is fascinating about the article is to listen to her reflections as she figures out that the way to make things happen, to really improve things is to stop focusing as much on race and to instead focus on helping everyone who needs help, for the good of all of us. She talks about how it's hard to let go of the old approaches, and why it's not necessarily fair, but evidently, she's also taking a lesson from Obama and deciding to be "pragmatic" as the media have taken to calling him.
It's worth a read. Let me know what you think.
Oh, and it's best to ignore the comments on this blog because they get really annoying really quickly.
