A rather frightening piece from the New York Times explores the impact of the next generation's understanding of writing and plagiarism. Yes, cheating is morally wrong. But more importantly, if you don't do the work, you don't learn the material. So your educational process is a waste, since it wasn't really a process of education at all, but merely an imitation of education.
Students need to understand this. Unrelated as it seems, I think it might be helpful to send more of them camping. Out in the wilderness, you could cut them off from their usual resources and then ask them questions that make them think. Anyway, we're going to have to do some quick thinking and acting to catch our methods up to the impact of technology.
