When Donald Rumsfeld talked about "Old Europe" I'm guessing he was as unaware as I was that that phrase was already in usage to describe a particular ancient civilization that existed in the Lower Danube Valley and the Balkan foothills before 5000 BC.
An exhibit of some of their stuff is currently up at NYU. The NYT has a slide show of some of it that you can see. It's kind of hard to realize how cool it is unless you can stay focused on how totally old it is. Enjoy!
