Extreme Times Call for Extreme Measures

So the New York Times editorial board is now calling on the Senate to use archane budget reconciliation tactics to pass health care reform with a simple majority vote. Because, of course, there is simply no way they're going to pass a bi-partisan bill that would be worth the paper it was written on.

This will certainly be seen as below-the-belt and extreme and unfair and blah, blah, blah.

I would point out that they weren't the ones who started extreme. (Nasty lies about killing granny anyone?)

But the other odd thing is that it's even considered "extreme" to use a simple majority rules decision-making process. The filibuster used to be considered archane and extreme too, but it's so abused now that we've convinced ourselves that every bill should have to get 60 votes to pass. That is a sure path to tyranny of the minority. (And this is a particularly tyrannical minority at the moment!)

I say, it's time for the Democrats to start acting like they won the election. Because (surprise!) they did.
