Okay, so it's seeming like the president of Honduras is not exactly a stand-up leftist democracy-loving good guy. But he is a leftist and he is the elected leader of his country. You can say all you want to about his under-handed attempted power-grabs.
BUT MILITARY COUPS ARE NOT OKAY! It is not okay for the military to come in with guns and send the president out of the country. That is not a solution to the problem. See article in NYT here.
I wish that the new generation of Latin American leftist leaders weren't so autocratic. They are not helping things by behaving that way. But we can't let that cloud the issues too much.
The general that led this coup is a graduate of the former School of the Americas (now called something more innocuous in an attempt to pretend the curriculum has changed). Which means that in a sense, all American tax-payers have culpability for what happened this morning.

Jeremy Scahill thinks a few phone calls from our President could have headed off the coup, but the calls weren't made because the coup supporters in the Honduran Congress stand with the U.S. in favor of free trade agreements: http://tinyurl.com/kv9djq
