In the sunshine a flaming torch,
my gingko glows in the drear of the autumn rain,
a reminder of the vibrancy of life.
As the wind turns a loft of yellow stars
into a carpet of golden debris,
the branches revealed only serve to display the carnival of the squirrels.
A season of transition -- as opposed
to a season of fullness --
commands us to notice each passing day,
for each brings a slightly different lesson.
