Happiness is a Warm Iron?

There has been a lot of chatter lately about happiness and more obnoxiously about how supposedly women are less happy now that we're more liberated. Katha Pollit has now weighed in to point out that "Are you happy?" is a stupid question, especially if you think you're going to get a useful (i.e. quantifiable) answer.

She also asks, "But why let quibbles stand in the way of a chance to attack feminism?" and points out the complexities of statistical analysis.

I love it when Katha tells it like it is. It makes me happy.

Katha Pollitt is awesome.

Another reality-based writer we both like, Barbara Ehrenreich, has a new book out about positive thinking as a means of social control.
