Someone Else's Thoughts on Harry Reid
Weren't we just talking about skin color bias here at Creme Anglaise? Well, Melissa Harris-Lacewell, one of the brilliant bloggers at The Nation offers a refreshing perspective on the recent media fuss about Harry Reid's comments about Obama, namely that the truly disturbing parts were the ones no one really brought up: that is, why being lighter-skinned and not speaking with a "dialect" would make it easier to get elected president. It is, in fact, true, but shouldn't that be the problem, not the fact that someone said so. (However inarticulately. How many people do you know who can talk about race articulately?)
