Check this out! North Dakota has a state-owned bank, and people are beginning to wonder if it's helping the state weather the recession better than other places.
The history is fascinating. It was, in fact, brought into being by socialists, during their very brief take-over of state government in 1915. What's even more exciting is that other states are now jealous and beginning to wonder if they could imitate it.
Of course, here in the Heart of Dixie, we don't use outsiders' ideas, especially socialist outsiders, even if they work really, really well. But maybe some of the rest of you can benefit from this.
